In short
BT Business Broadband comes in four packages. Essential is the entry plan. Enhanced adds automatic 4G backup, a static IP and Enhanced IT Support. Pro adds Smart Hub 3, Complete Wi-Fi Plus, Prompt Care and Wi-Fi Security Controls. Ultra replaces the hub with managed Cisco Meraki security, Wi-Fi and mobile backup.

How the BT plans fit together
BT builds its business broadband in tiers. The connection itself, your speed, depends mainly on the line at your address. The plan decides what comes with that connection: the equipment, the backup, the Wi-Fi, the security tools and how quickly BT aims to fix a fault.
- Essential gives you the business basics: BT's minimum speed guarantee, unlimited data, guest Wi-Fi, and Content Controls and Web Threat Protect.
- Enhanced is about staying online: it adds Hybrid Backup, one static IP and BT's Enhanced IT Support.
- Pro is about the whole workplace: it adds Smart Hub 3, Complete Wi-Fi Plus, Prompt Care, Expert Setup and Wi-Fi Security Controls.
- Ultra is about managed security: Cisco Meraki equipment replaces the hub and Wi-Fi discs, with a security package, a cloud dashboard and changes made by BT on request.
Plan names on BT's order pages combine the tier, the speed and sometimes a bundle, for example "Essential 76 Standard Fibre", "Enhanced 300" or "Pro 900 + Digital Line".

Which line types each plan runs on
Not every plan is sold on every type of line. This matters most if your address only has copper or Standard Fibre:
| Access type | Essential | Enhanced | Pro | Ultra |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Copper (SoADSL), up to 17Mbps | Yes | Yes | No | No |
| Standard Fibre 38 | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Standard Fibre 76 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Full Fibre 100 to 900 | Yes | Yes | Yes | 150, 300, 500 and 900 |
| Full Fibre Gigabit and 1.6 Gigabit, at some addresses | Yes | Yes | Not listed | No |
Pro is not available on copper. If you are on Standard Fibre, Pro is the plan that brings Smart Hub 3 and Complete Wi-Fi Plus to your premises. Ultra needs Standard Fibre 76 or Full Fibre. BT's deals pages list the Full Fibre Gigabit and 1.6 Gigabit plans with Essential and Enhanced at some addresses; whether they are available at yours, and through us, is confirmed at quote. See gigabit business broadband, Standard Fibre (SOGEA) and BT Business Full Fibre.
How to choose a plan
Start with the cost of a bad day, not the monthly price. These questions usually point to the right tier:
- What happens if the line goes down for a day? If the answer is "not much", Essential may be enough. If you would lose sales, bookings or calls, look at Enhanced or add Hybrid Backup to Essential.
- Does anything need a fixed address? Remote desktop, a VPN, CCTV viewing or a server usually means a static IP, included on Enhanced and Pro. Ultra does not support static IPs.
- Does the Wi-Fi reach every room? In a larger or awkward building, Pro's Complete Wi-Fi Plus, with BT's coverage guarantee for the main building, can save a lot of frustration.
- How fast do faults need fixing? Prompt Care targets the end of the next working day, including Saturdays, against the second working day under Standard Care. It comes with Pro and Ultra and can be added to the lower plans.
- Who manages security? Pro gives you device-level controls in the BT Business app. Ultra gives you a managed Cisco Meraki firewall and security package, with BT making changes on request.
- Do you need a phone number on the same bill? Essential, Enhanced and Pro can be bundled with a Digital Line. Ultra is broadband only.
If two plans look close, compare the add-on route too: Essential with Hybrid Backup and a static IP can suit a small office that does not need Pro's Wi-Fi. Contact us and we will price both routes.

Matching plans to common situations
These are starting points, not rules. Your address, building and budget all play a part:
| Situation | Plan to look at first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Sole trader or small shop with simple needs | Essential | The business basics, with add-ons if you need them later |
| Card payments, bookings or cloud calls that cannot stop | Enhanced | Hybrid Backup switches to 4G automatically if the line fails |
| Remote access, VPNs or cameras viewed from outside | Enhanced or Pro | One static IP included |
| Larger premises where Wi-Fi does not reach every room | Pro | Smart Hub 3 and Complete Wi-Fi Plus, with BT's coverage guarantee for the main building |
| Guests, staff and devices you want to control from an app | Pro | Wi-Fi Security Controls in the BT Business app |
| Client data, no in-house IT and a wish for managed security | Ultra | Cisco Meraki firewall and security package, with changes made by BT on request |
| Large uploads, many users or a strong service level needed | A leased line | Dedicated bandwidth with the same upload and download speed |
Sector guides go further for retail, hospitality, dental practices and clinics and accountants and solicitors.
Ultra or Pro?
Ultra and Pro are both aimed at businesses that rely on their connection, but they solve different problems. Pro is BT's hub-based plan with whole-building Wi-Fi and device-level security controls; Ultra is a managed, security-led plan built on Cisco Meraki equipment.
Ultra is not the right fit if you rely on static IP addresses, want to keep an existing third-party firewall, have a complex or bespoke network, want to manage security settings yourself, or want a proactively monitored service. Ultra is sold on 36- or 60-month terms and cannot be bundled with a Digital Line. Our BT Ultra vs Pro comparison goes through it line by line, and Ultra Broadband security explains the Meraki package.
Bundles, upgrades and next steps
- Broadband and phone. A BT Digital Line bundled with broadband gives a very small business a number on an app or desk phone. For teams, see BT Cloud Voice.
- Broadband only. Most addresses can have broadband without a phone line.
- Already with BT? See upgrading your BT Business Broadband to move up a plan, move to Full Fibre or add features.
